Top women's rowing event returns to Shanghai Time:2025-05-14

The 2025 China International Women's Rowing Elite Race will be held at the Jinhuigang River in Fengxian district from May 16 to 18. As the world's largest and most prestigious official women's rowing event, the competition is being hosted in the district for the second time in a row.

This year, 41 teams and 220 rowers from around the world will compete in the race, which features two main categories: 1,000-meter quadruple sculls and 500-meter double sculls. Competitions for the 1,000-meter quadruple sculls will take place on May 17 in the elite, university, and club categories, while the 500-meter double sculls races are scheduled for May 18.

The lineup of participating teams features elite domestic and international rowing teams, alongside teams from prestigious universities worldwide.

Top participants include Greta Spencer from the Rowing Western Australia, a multiple-time champion in national competitions in Australia, and Zhang Huan, former captain of China’s national women's single sculls team, who won the Chinese National Rowing Championship. Sports icons such as Xu Lijia, Asia's first Olympic sailing champion, will also be present as guests to support the event.

To enhance the spectator experience, the organizing committee will hang guidance signs on the railings in the viewing area at Jinhuigang River. Spectators can conveniently watch live broadcasts and access information about the teams, athletes, and results via NFC communication

A series of activities, including a water sports fair and the Fengxian district water sports development forum, will take place during the event. Within a 30-minute radius of the event venue, new consumer experiences combining sports, the night economy, and local cuisine will also be offered to enrich the cultural and tourism experience.
